PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PS4 Review

**PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds ** quickly changed the game industry substantially after releasing in early access in March 2017. It took all the learnings (and namesake) of Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene's previous works - where he crafted battle royale modes within ARMA 2's DayZ mod and consulted on Sony Online Entertainment's H1Z1 - and brought forth the large-scale and gritty battle royale experience together with Korean developer Bluehole, Inc. for which Greene serves as Creative Direc

PUBG has brought a whole new meaning to the word sterile. Even today the game looks like an earlier edition of Call of Duty that was stripped down to it's barest of bones. The only personality it has that comes to mind is the iconic level three helmet and the frying pan, but there's not much more than t

We didn't even get this as much as we wanted in the last entry, but Fortnite is fast. Good luck trying to get your dad into the game because if you're not on your P's and Q's you're going to get pwned by some 8-year-old wearing a snap-back sideways within minutes of dropping off the battle bus. PUBG however, is more in line with the game play of a classic shooter. It's slow, almost empty at times and getting kills in it usually requires a much more patient, methodical approach. Sure the best players can run-n-gun like it's nobodies business, but if you play the game slow you have a good chance of making it

All of this is not to say that PUBG on PS4 isn't fun, as it's definitely a serviceable experience for Battle Royale aficionados who want a more strategic and deliberately paced alternative to competitors like Fortnite and Black Ops 4 's Blackout . Unfortunately, though, there are still a host of problems that PUBG Corp. needs to address so as to justify the PlayStation 4 port's $30 price

If you don’t finish the target in the first two rounds or if the enemy is 10 meters away, then Sawed-off becomes a liability. It has the highest potential damage out of any other handgun, but it also has the lowest effective ra

M416 is the only non-air-drop 5.56 weapon that is still in the high tier. Even though it has been nerfed multiple times in the past, the gun still is a solid option that is fit for every situation. It’s way more versatile than any other assault rifle in the same class, and overall, it has been an old faithful for most play

Surrounded by hot springs on both sides, Cantra is perfectly located for either a very early or very late plane drop. The differences in terrain levels mean players on the low end may feel a little exposed, but the quality of loot and amount of sniper gear which usually spawns in the area is worth it, and the open courtyards of the town are adequately peppered with objects like cars and table which provide good cover for pushing in on an enemy t

The Xbox version of the game, a half-baked port of a PC title which isn't well optimized as is on its lead platform, still runs poorly even on the powerful Xbox One X. Its fundamental gameplay mechanics are clunky and subpar compared to any other notable shooter, and it looks dated. Skip forward a year, and now PlayStation 4 players can experience the same disappointment and bugs. Little has changed, and shockingly, PUBG on PS4 is the worst version of the g

On PC, PUBG has settled in after its massive player base began shrinking month after month, and it runs well enough on high-end PCs. On consoles, though, it's not a recommendable experience, especially on the PS4 version of the game which gets embarrassed in visuals and performance by more recent shooters Black Ops 4 and Battlefield

Fortnite on the other hand reeks of personality, so much so that they were even able to thread a story through all of it's themes. Despite not having reality breaking graphics, it's still just such a fun game to look at and play, and that's a testament to the st

Needless to say, PUBG quickly rose up the charts on Steam and among influencers on Twitch and YouTube to dethrone H1Z1 and hit record levels of concurrent players. Despite a small development cycle and small dev team (since renamed PUBG Corporation), PUBG became a phenomenon as an early access games as a service title, so much so, that Microsoft signed a one-year exclusivity deal to bring it to Xbox by the end of 2

This is the part where many gamers rightfully bash PUBG into the the grave that it deserves to die in after introducing it's shady business practices. First, charge for a game that's an unfinished buggy mess that continued to be an unfinished buggy mess for years to come. Second, bring in a shady micro-transaction lottery system that rewards you with crappy cosmetic items for a bloated price. Third, Neon Giant copy the fair and successful battle pass formula that Fortnite has implemented since the start of the series. Boy are those PUBG devs shady, and while the Epic Game's higher ups are no less shady, they at least implemented fair business practices in their most profitable g
