DecemberI Love The Idea Of Esports, But It’s Hard To Watch
Imagine an esports equivalent of ESPN. ESPN works because coverage of most traditional sports is basically the same. You point a camera at the field and watch what happens while two "experts" talk about what’s going on. Esports won’t and can’t work like this. Every game is drastically different from the next, with its own graphics, mechanics, and strategies to be emplo
This is advice that can be applied to practically every gunfight. Whether they're being met head-on or they've managed to get the drop on the player's squad, smart and precise repositioning by a single squadmate can immediately flip the table on any situat
The second-half of The Flash season 5 will see Barry Allen and his fellow superheroes in Central City facing two threats; the super-powered serial-killer Cicada is still at large and the team faces an enemy within, as The Flash season 5 midseason finale revealed that Nora Allen - Flash's daughter from the future - has been working for the Reverse-Flash . It remains to be seen if she's a willing pawn or an unwitting dupe, but it seems likely this will end in tears in either c
It’s more than a semantic concern, however. Unlike traditional sports, it’s nearly impossible to tune in to games that you don’t play personally. For instance, I’ve never been into Overwatch , and although I understand how to climb MMR Dota 2 the gameplay works, Overwatch League is completely unenjoyable to watch. You can’t appreciate the level of difficulty that certain moves take to execute unless you’ve attempted them yourself. This rule is almost universally applied across all of esports. Unlike traditional sports, where pure athleticism can be appreciated void of any tactical or technical knowledge, esports requires a higher degree of familiarity. At best, this means that viewership rarely crosses between games. At worst, this means esports isn't viewer-friendly and may never have what it takes to reach wider audien
But it’s mostly a farce. Those who play the most popular games at the highest level get all the limelight and all the cash. For everyone else, streaming—where personality trumps skill—is the only way to make money from gaming. If the community stays as segmented and hastily constructed as it is, it’s tough to imagine esports becoming anything better than what it already is. If you’re happy with the current state of esports, good for you. But for someone who wants a more entertaining and structured esports community, something has to cha
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is doing a number of things to celebrate Dark Arts Month. There's the two-part Fighting Forces Brilliant Event, during which players will come face-to-face with Death Eaters, escaped Azkaban prisoners, Sirius Black (but he's a good guy?), and Dementors. Furthermore, a Halloween quest will begin on October 31, in which players will explore a Dark Arts-themed Fortress Chamber and win some special rewa

Bloodborne 's Halloween event is a little more non-traditional, in that the Return to Yharnam event is completely community-run. There are officially sanctioned costumes for players to show off, but for the main event, players are encouraged to roll new characters and then interact with fellow Hunters as much as possible, Summoning or Invading them frequently. Bloodborne 's community event is going on now and runs until Novembe
Foster child Billy Batson is a good-hearted boy, despite a hard-knock life. Chosen by a wizard to become heir to his power, Billy is transformed into a super-powered adult whenever he exclaims the magic word "Shazam." Part of the DC Extended Universe, the early buzz for Shazam! is strong, with its first trailer from SDCC promising a more light-hearted story than earlier DCEU mov
Based on a Vertigo Comics series, iZombie centers upon Liv Moore - an undead coroner who uses her power to gain a person's knowledge and memories when she eats their brain to solve mysteries. No air date or time has been set for when the show's fifth and final season will air, beyond it airing sometime in the spring of 2019 on The
Last fall, 24 teams from around the world competed for a near $5 million prize pool at the League of Legends World Championship. The finals were held in front of a sold-out, 20,000-person crowd at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France. An estimated 100 million more watched online. For reference, 98.2 million people tuned in for Super Bowl L
Coverage is bad because esports are hard to watch, not the other way around. It all stems from an inability to produce universal coverage. Too much diversity or segmented viewership may not seem like an issue on the surface, but it is. Maybe you’re simply saying "well, no one is asking you to watch every esport," and that’s fair. Maybe communities are fine existing in their own worlds—far out of the reach of other gaming communities. But it does create a barrier for the industry to break into mainstream entertainm
